Laser engraving removes material to create deep, permanent marks with tactile depth (typically 0.02mm-0.3mm). Laser etching is shallower, altering the surface color or texture without significant material removal. For jewelry, engraving is preferred for inner-ring text and patterns that need to last decades. Etching works well for logos and decorative marks on flat surfaces where depth isn't required.
We can laser engrave on gold (all karats), silver, platinum, palladium, stainless steel, brass, copper, and aluminum. Titanium and tungsten can also be marked with fiber lasers, though the contrast is different from precious metals. Ceramic and wood rings require CO2 lasers. We do not recommend laser engraving on plated jewelry with thin plating (under 0.5 microns) as the laser may expose the base metal.
For text-based engraving, any font file or vector text works. For logos and patterns, we prefer vector files (AI, EPS, SVG, PDF). For photo engraving and 3D textures, we accept high-resolution JPG/PNG (minimum 300 DPI) or grayscale depth maps.
Standard laser engraving depth ranges from 0.02mm to 0.3mm depending on the material and laser power settings. For inner-ring text, we typically engrave at 0.1mm-0.15mm — deep enough to be permanent and tactile, but shallow enough not to weaken the ring shank. Deep laser engraving up to 0.5mm is possible on thicker pieces (3mm+ gauges) for dramatic 3D effects.

Unlike traditional soldering, there's no flux residue, no visible seam, and the joint is as strong as the original metal. Our laser welders operate at controlled pulse durations (0.1ms-30ms) ensuring safe application on delicate chains as thin as 0.3mm.
